Nervous Dental Patients

Coventry dentist for nervous dental patients

Modern techniques and anaesthetics have advanced dentistry to the point where all procedures can now be performed in total comfort for most patients.

At our practice we are very concerned that your dental experience is painless and every care is taken to ensure your complete comfort. Strong surface anaesthetics are always applied to the gum before giving injections.

For some however, no matter how gentle and careful we are, treatment remains an ordeal. We therefore offer a range of safe sedation techniques to assist patients to accept treatment in total comfort.

Oral Sedation

You take a sedative tablet about one hour before your appointment. The effects of the tablet are to reduce anxiety. Recommended for mild to moderate anxiety.

Relative Analgesia (happy air)

Nitrous oxide and oxygen are inhaled through a small nasal mask. The effects are to reduce anxiety and it also acts as a strong painkiller. Simple procedures can therefore be carried out without injections. The effects completely wear off within a few minutes so you can drive and resume normal activities after treatment. Recommended for mild to moderate anxiety.

Intra-venous sedation

A powerful sedative is administered by injection into the arm. Whilst you are not unconscious you are asleep and unaware of treatment being carried out. You will have virtually no recollection of treatment afterwards. Recommended for patients with severe anxiety of dental treatment.
